How to Avoid
Viruses on Your Computer
When it comes to successfully operating your business, avoiding computer viruses is a critical step in the process. You need to be able to handle your computer services or hire an IT company or provider that can. Simple things like downloading files, installing virus software, and visiting less than savory websites can put your computer in jeopardy in the blink of an eye. Having a virus-free computer will allow your business to function more efficiently. Plus, it can often save the hassle of disrupting your business or passing the virus along to your customers through your website or online store. This is rare, but it can happen. If it does, your customers definitely won’t be happy.
As a high risk merchant there are many different issues that you face in business operations. Simple things like keeping your computer virus-free might not seem nearly as important when you’re dealing with high risk processor applications and high volume merchant account or MLM merchant account approvals, but it’s all a critical part of having a successful business. Don’t let yourself be taken advantage of or misled here. You do need to focus on your business, but you should also make sure that you protect your business from all of the unsavory things that are out there on the internet.
Step One: Obtain an antivirus program and keep it current. It doesn’t matter which one you choose or why you choose it. As long as you have an antivirus program that you enjoy and that is effective, you are on the right path. You have enough things to worry about as a high risk merchant, so don’t let this be one of them. Get the antivirus software and get back to business.
Step Two: Set up the software to protect you online, wherever you go. You can’t afford to risk losing your business because your firewall was down. As a high risk merchant account holder, you already know that there are other high risk merchants out there, and plenty of them with issues that could lead to computer viruses and other problems. Protect yourself, even if you have to approve or click ‘allow’ 100 times a day. It’s far better to be safe than sorry.
Step Three: If it seems fishy, run away. Too many people fall victim to the popup windows that look like their own windows on their computers. Therefore, they click on them and end up downloading a virus without even knowing it. Would ‘My Computer’ just pop up without you asking it to open, ever? The chances are slim, so if it does, click the ‘X’ and just keep moving on.
Step Four: If all else fails, buy a Mac. Some people don’t like Apple or the Mac operating systems, but Mac doesn’t have complications with programs, viruses to worry about, or anything else. PCs are so common that they are affordable to anyone and easy to hack into, but a Mac is more expensive, harder to crack, and generally has fewer users that even care to create viruses and spread them around. Investing in a whole new computer set up for your high risk business might not be the ideal solution, but it can be effective.
High risk merchants are in a sticky situation almost all the time. Don’t let computer viruses become a part of that sticky situation just because you didn’t take the time to protect yourself. You can’t guarantee that you’ll be virus free forever, but you can be much safer and more protected, allowing you to get back to focusing on your business within the industry of high risk merchants.
